CT Tutorial for Autumnal Fae and Falls Grace

**This tutorial was written using Photoshop CC. I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.  This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).  If you do not know how to do some of the things I mention here (like mirroring an image, adding a drop shadow, resizing elements, etc.), check out my “Tips and Tricks” tutorial. **

Supplies:
PTU Poser – “Autumnal Fae” by Carolann Creations.  You can purchase the tube at Berry Applicious

PTU Kit - “Falls Grace” by Wicked Princess Scraps.  Available at The PSP Project and Thrifty Scraps.

FTU Mask - "Mask 05 - Dreamscape" by Aeval Amore.  Available for download on my blog, Aeval's Art.

Abbreviations:
DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:
DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!
Open Paper 2 in a new canvas.  Double click on the layer to unlock it.

Add the Mask to the canvas and resize if needed so it is the same size as the paper.  Then drag the mask layer below the paper layer.

With the mask layer selected, select all (Ctrl + A) and copy the entire canvas (Ctrl + C).  You will see dashed lines surround the canvas.

Click on the paper layer to activate it, then turn on quick mask (Press the Q key on your keyboard).  The dashed lines will disappear and that is ok.  Next Paste onto the paper (Ctrl + V) and turn your Quick Mask off (Q again).

You will now see a dotted outline of the mask on your paper.  Press the button on the bottom of layers side bar that is a rectangle with a circle cut out of it.  The mask will now show.

Right click on the paper layer and select Convert to Smart Image.  This releases just the mask.  The background layer of the mask will become invisible on its own.

Open a new canvas (Ctrl +N) 700 x 700, transparent background.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add the paper/mask combination from above to the working canvas.  Resize to fit the canvas.

Add LEAFSCATTER to the canvas.  Resize to fit the canvas and position at the bottom of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add BRANCH2 to the canvas. Position it on the right side of the canvas on top of the leaves.  Add DS.

Add LEAF6 to the canvas.  Resize to fill in the space from the upper right corner to where the BRANCH2 element is on the right side.  Add DS.

Add FRAME2 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the entire canvas.  Add DS.

Add BANNER to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the canvas and position at the bottom of the canvas.

Add your poser to the canvas and resize to fit the canvas.  Position her so she looks as though she is kneeling on top of the banner.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the fall inspired elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them to fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

Here are all the additional elements I used from the bottom layers up.

  • GRASS (X2)
  • CLOUD (X2)
  • BRANCH
  • LEAF1
  • LEAF2
  • OWL
  • SQURILLE
  • LEAF3
  • BUTTERFLY

Supplies:
PTU Poser – “Angelique” by Carolann Creations.  You can purchase the tube at Berry Applicious

PTU Kit - “Chic In Pink” by Wicked Princess Scraps.  Available at The PSP Project and Thrifty Scraps.

FTU Mask - "Mask 13 – Cloudy" by Aeval Amore.  Available for download on my blog, Aeval's Art.

Abbreviations:
DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:
DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!
Open Paper 12 in a new canvas.

Add FRAME3 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the canvas and position in the center of the mask.  Add DS.

Open the poser in another canvas.  Use the marquee tool and draw a rectangle around the upper body of the poser.  Copy the poser and switch back to the working canvas.  Paste the poser onto the canvas.  Select Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal from the menu to flip her so she is facing in the opposite direction. Resize sot she extends slightly above the frame.  Add DS.

Add MATTING to the canvas and position below the frame layer.  Resize the element so the entire center of the frame has the matting behind it.  Switch to the frame layer.  Use the Magic Wand Tool to select the inside of the frame.  Inverse your selection (Shift + Ctrl + I).  Switch back to the Matting layer and right click on the layer.  Select “Rasterize Layer” and then press delete.  Now only the part of the element inside the frame remains.

Add FLOWER12 to the canvas. Move the layer below the Matting layer. Position so it is slightly behind the top of the frame area and resize it to extend slightly beyond the Frame.  Add DS.

Add FLOWER10 to the canvas.  Move this to be the top layer. Resize to proportions that you like and position in the center at the bottom of the frame in the center.  If there is part of the tube overlapping the frame layer you can cover it up with this element.  Add DS.

Add PILLOW2 to the canvas.  Position it on the left side of the tag toward the bottom. Resize to your liking and add DS.

Add PILLOW to the canvas.  Resize to your liking and position in front of the other pillows, slightly overlapping.  Add DS.

Add BEAR2 to the canvas.  Resize to your liking and position slightly in front of the pink pillow and slightly overlapping.  Add DS.

Add CATS to the canvas.  Resize so the cats are roughly the same width of the pink pillow.  Position in front of the pillow and slightly overlapping the bear.  Add DS.

Add CAGE2 to the canvas.  Resize to fill the bottom right corner and add DS.

Combined CT Tutorial for Kimmy - Designs by Norella and Wicked Princess

**This tutorial was written using Photoshop CC. I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.  This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).  If you do not know how to do some of the things I mention here (like mirroring an image, adding a drop shadow, resizing elements, etc.), check out my “Tips and Tricks” tutorial. **

Supplies:
PTU Poser – “Kimmy” by Designs By Norella.  You can purchase the tube at the Designs by Norella store

PTU Kit - “Kimmy” by Wicked Princess Scraps.  Available at The PSP Project and Thrifty Scraps.

FTU Mask - "Mask 01 – Cloud Template" by Aeval Amore.  Available for download on my blog, Aeval's Art.

Abbreviations:
DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:
DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!
Open Paper 5 in a new canvas.

Use the marquee tool and draw a rectangle around the top portion of the mask.  Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) it on the canvas. Move the copy layer below the original mask layer and position it to help fill out the bottom area of the tag.  If you need to use the eraser tool to erase areas to give you the shape you want.

Open the poser in another canvas.  Use the marquee tool and draw a rectangle around the upper body of the poser.  Copy the poser and switch back to the working canvas.  Make sure the mask layer up at the top is selected and paste the poser onto the canvas.  Select Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal from the menu to flip her so she is facing in the opposite direction. Resize to fit in the upper left section of the mask.  Position however you like best and then right click on the poser layer and select “Create clipping mask” to clip it to the mask layer behind.  Then right click on the poser layer and select “Blending Options”.  Change the blend mode to “Screen” and select OK.  This will give it the faded appearance.

Add TREE2 to the canvas and position on the right side.  Resize to fit the canvas leaving room at the top and bottom to cover with the grass at the bottom and the leafy overhang at the top.  Add DS.

Add TOWER to the canvas to the left of the tree.  Move the layer below the tree layer.  Resize to fit the canvas the same way as the tree and position so the tree slightly overlaps the tower and the tower overlaps slightly the face in the sky.

Add multiple copies of GRASS in multiples sizes overlapping each other to create a grassy area for the bottom of the tag.  I used 3 different layers of the element and made one layer the width of the mask but varied the sizes of the other layers and overlapped them.  Make sure the grass layers are above the tree and tower and covers the bottoms of each.

Add LEAF12 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the mask.  To get a faded look I used the eraser tool and erased around the edges of the element.  Add DS.

Add the full poser to the canvas as the new top layer.  Resize to fit and position to the right side of the tag so it looks like she is standing on the grassy area.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the autumn elements from the kit.

  • OWL
  • LEAF7 (X2)
  • LEAF11
  • LEAF6
  • LEAF4
  • FLOWER8
  • FLOWER7
  • FLOWER5
  • FLOWER4
  • LEAF10 (X3)
  • BUTTERFLY

Snowflake Miracles

I’m writing this tutorial using Photoshop CC.  I am assuming the reader has a basic working knowledge of  the Photoshop program.  I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.

This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).  J

Supplies I used for this tutorial:
  • Poser -  Snowflake by Designs by Norella.  It is PTU and can be purchased here.  Make sure you register and receive your license from the website to use this tube.
  • Kit – Winter’s Love by Wicked Princess Scraps.  It is FTU and can be downloaded  here.
  • Font – Fontdinerdotcom Sparkly.  It is a free font and can be downloaded  here.

Abbreviations:
SS – Screen Shot
DS – Drop Shadow
B&E – Bevel & Emboss

Common  Steps:

Instructions:
Open the folder that has your Kit elements in it.
Open  the PSD file of your tube.
Open a new working canvas sized 700 px by 700 px with a transparent background.

Add your Snowflake tube and resize her to fit the canvas.  Position her to the right of the canvas.  Add a DS to Snowflake.  I like to use an angle of about 120 degrees.

From your kit, add the Twig Frame and resize it to about 400%.  Position it to the left of Snowflake.  Drag the layer below Snowflake.  Add DS.
Next add paper PP2 and resize it so it covers at least all of the empty part of the frame.  Going beyond the empty area is fine as we are going to clip it to fit.  Make sure the paper layer is below the Frame.
Select the Frame layer. Select the Magic Wand tool and click inside the empty part of the frame.  Make sure it selects the entire empty space of the frame.  Now from the main menu choose:  Select > Modify > Expand.  Expand the selection by at least 5 pixels.  Then Inverse your selection (Ctrl + Shift + I).  Now all of the canvas except the empty part of the frame is selected.

Click back on the paper layer to activate it.  Right click on the paper and select Rasterize layer.  Then press the Delete key on your keyboard.   Voila, now your paper should be all gone except the portion in the center of the frame.

Now go back to your original tube file (not the one in your working canvas, but the one still open from the beginning).  Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw a box around just the part of the tube you want to display in the frame.  Copy (Ctrl + C) the selection.
****Note:  If you are working with a multiple layer tube, you may need to save the image you are using as png file  with only the layers you want turned on.  Then you can open up the png file and use it to copy from.

Go back to your working canvas and paste (Ctrl + V) the selection.  Make sure the layer you are working with is above the paper layer.  Resize the selection from the tube to fit inside your frame.  Once you like what is being displayed inside the frame.  Right click on the layer and select “Create Clipping Mask”.  This trims away any part of the pasted in selection that falls outside of the trimmed paper.

Add the word art from the kit next.  Position it at the bottom of the canvas and resize it to fit in the empty space.  I chose 347% and added a layer to make it stand out more.  I also added a B&E using the Outer Bevel Style, Technique Smooth, and Up Direction.  And a Stroke in red with a size of 1.

At this point I like to add the background.  You can either use a mask or the Brush tool.  For this one I used my brush tool with a cloud brush and a red from Snowflake outfit.  I then just painted random areas until I liked how it looked.

From here you can add whatever other elements you like and resize them and position them as you want.  Below is a list of what I chose to do.  You can choose to use the same ones or experiment with other elements.  All of these I added in order from the bottom up between the bottom layer and Snowflake.
  •  Added Flourish above the bottom  layer and resized it 497%.  Made this off center toward the left.
  • Added Flowerflourish above that layer and resized it 1375%.  Made this off center toward the right.
  • Above the Twigframe layer I add Leaves resized to 249% and positioned it so that it over lapped the top of the frame.  Added DS.
  • Added Popflowerbranch layer to the left side of the frame.  Resized to 241% and added DS.
  • Added the Leaf to the left side and resized it to 214%.  Added DS.
  • Added Branch to the left side and resized it to 178%.  Added DS.
  • Added Branch2 to the bottom  resized to 178% and rotated slightly.  Added DS.
  • Added Redribbon to the middle of the canvas so that is ran along the bottom of the frame.  I just resized it to stretch slightly over the left side.  Added DS.
  • Added Blingleaf beside Branch2 and resized it to 195% and slightly rotated it as well.  Added DS.
  • Added Bauganvilleflower to the left side of the frame  resized to 218%, slightly rotated and added DS.
  • Added Rosecorsage to the left grouping and resized it to 378%.  Added DS.
  • Added Blingflower resized to about 185% to connect the grouping at the bottom and the grouping on the left so that it slightly overlapped both.  Added DS.

Add your name to the top middle of the tag using the font of your choice.  I chose Fontdinerdotcom Sparkly and a type size of 100.  Then I applied  a complimentary style to it.

The last step is to be sure to add the proper artists copyright and save as a .png file!

Thank you for trying  my tutorial.  If you would like to offer any feedback, please comment on the blog and let me know if you have questions or suggestions to improve the instructions.
