PTU CT Tutorial for Jeanne and Lake Days

**This tutorial was written using Photoshop CC. I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.  This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).  If you do not know how to do some of the things I mention here (like mirroring an image, adding a drop shadow, resizing elements, etc.), check out my “Tips and Tricks” tutorial. **

Supplies:

PTU Tube – “Jeanne” by Designs by Norella.  This beautiful tube can be purchased at the artist's store Designs by Norella.

PTU Kit- “Lake Days” by Michelle’s Myths.  You can buy this beautiful kit at PicsForDesign.

FTU Mask – “Mask 08 – Focus” by Aeval Amore.  You can download the mask from my blog, Aeval’s Art.

 

Abbreviations:

DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open Paper 6 in a new canvas.  Double click on the layer to unlock it.

Add the Mask to the canvas and resize if needed so it is the same size as the paper.  Then drag the mask layer below the paper layer.

With the mask layer selected, select all (Ctrl + A) and copy the entire canvas (Ctrl + C).  You will see dashed lines surround the canvas. 

Click on the paper layer to activate it, then turn on quick mask (Press the Q key on your keyboard).  The dashed lines will disappear and that is ok.  Next Paste onto the paper (Ctrl + V) and turn your Quick Mask off (Q again). 

You will now see a dotted outline of the mask on your paper.  Press the button on the bottom of layers side bar that is a rectangle with a circle cut out of it.  The mask will now show. 

Right click on the paper layer and select Convert to Smart Image.  This releases just the mask.  The background layer of the mask will become invisible on its own. 

Open a new canvas (Ctrl +N) 700 x 700, transparent background.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add the combined paper and mask from above to the canvas.  Resize to fit the canvas.

Add Element 28 to the canvas and resize to fit the width of the canvas.  Position at the bottom of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add your tube.  Resize her to fit on the canvas.  Move the tube layer below the grass layer. Position her on the left side so it looks like she is kneeling in the grass. 

Add Element 91 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the grass.  Move the water layer below the tube layer and position the water so that it is even with the grass and looks like a lake in the background.

Add Element 29 to the canvas below the lake layer.  Resize to fit the width of the other grass layer.  Position it so that it looks like grass rising above the opposite side of the lake.  Duplicate the layer and move the copy layer below the original and position it so it is slightly above the original grass.

Add Element 36 to the canvas and position on the left side behind the poser’s feet to fill in the gap between the grass banks.  Duplicate the layer and move the duplicated layer to the other side and fill the gap there.

Add another Element 28 to the canvas and position it in front of the bottom grass.  Resize it so it fills in any spot where you want more fullness.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the fun elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so they fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

CT Tutorial for PTU Kit Dark Queen by Michelle's Myths

Supplies:

PTU Kit- “Dark Queen” by Michelle’s Myths.  You can buy this beautiful kit at PicsForDesign or Scrap Candy.

PTU Tube – “17-1 Medusa” by Gaetano DiFalco.  This tube was purchased from Creative Design Outlet, but the artist is now retired.  However, this kit will match many other tubes available at your favorite stores.

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open a new canvas (Ctrl +N) 700 x 700, transparent background.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Element 36 and resize to fit the entire canvas.  Position at the bottom of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add Element 32 and resize to fit the entire canvas.  Position slightly overlapping Element 36 layer.  Add DS.

Add Element 2 to the canvas and resize to fit the upper portion of the canvas. Add DS.

Add Element 82 to the canvas and position in the upper left corner of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add Element 16 to the canvas.  Resize to fit on top of the grass area you created.  Add DS.

Add Element 103 to the canvas. Resize to fit the width of Element 16.  Position so it looks like green flames dancing in front of the structure.

Add Element 108 to the canvas.  Resize to the fit the canvas.  Position to the left of the structure so it slightly overlaps it.  Add DS.

Add the full tube to the canvas.  Resize to fit and position in the middle of the flames.  Add DS.

Add Element 110 to the canvas. Resize to fit the width of the canvas and position at the bottom of the canvas.  It should appear that the Medusa is rising above the brush.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the dark and daring elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so they fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

CT Tutorial for PTU Kit "Just a Cowgirl" by Michelle's Myths

Supplies:

PTU Kit- “Just a Cowgirl” by Michelle’s Myths.  You can buy this beautiful kit at PicsForDesign or Scrap Candy.

PTU Tube – “Cindy” by Spazz.  This tube was a special bonus tube for customers at the artist’s store.  Check out her currently available tubes at The Art of Spazz.

Add Paper 10 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the entire canvas.

Add the Mask to the canvas and resize if needed so it is the same size as the working canvas.  Then drag the mask layer below the paper layer.

Make the original mask layer invisible.

Add Element 35 to the canvas and resize to desired size.  Position at the bottom of the canvas.

Add your tube.  Resize her to fit on the canvas.  Position her on the left side so it looks like her foot is resting on the Cowgirl element.  Add DS.

Add Element 37 to the canvas on the left side.  Resize to fit and add DS.

Add Element 50 behind the tube and horse layers.  Resize so it looks like the cowgirl is leaning on it.  Add DS.

Add Element 75 and resize to fit the canvas.  Position at the bottom so it looks like the Cowgirl word art and the tube and horse are all standing on the grass.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the western themed elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so they fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used. 

Here are all the elements I used from the bottom layers up.

PTU Poser – “Mystic” by Designs by Norella.  You can purchase the tube Exclusively at Scraps From the Heart.

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open up the PSD file for the template.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Paper 6 and resize to fit the entire canvas.

Switch to the Poser psd canvas. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw a box around the top half of the poser in Layer 0 of the psd file.  Copy (Ctrl + C) the selection and return to your working canvas.

On your working canvas make sure the Paper 6 layer is selected then paste (Ctrl + V) the copied selection.  Transpose the selection horizontally. Resize the selection so that poser’s head fits to your satisfaction in the middle of the sky.  To give it the transparent look that mine has, in the Blending Options change the opacity to 23%. 

Add Frame 3 to the canvas resize so it the leaves forms a frame around the face.  Add DS

Add Element 36 to the canvas and resize to fit the width of the canvas.  Add DS.

Under the grass layer, add Element 24.  Resize and position so that the bottom of the keep is slightly below the grass on the left side of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add Element 59.  Resize and position so the edge of the rocks are just above the grass line.  Duplicate layer and spread the rocks to fill up the sky line.  Add DS to both layers.

Add the full poser to the canvas.  Resize to fit and position on the right hand side so she is standing in front of the rocks on the grass.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the gorgeous elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so they fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used. 

Here are all the elements I used from the bottom layers up.

To finish off the canvas, use the rectangular marquee tool to select the entire canvas.  Add a new layer and from the menu bar use Select > Modify > Border set the width to 10.  Select a blue color as the foreground and use the paint bucket tool to fill in the border.  Apply a matching style.

Add your license and copyright info to the tag.

Add name and any other text of choice.

Save as PNG and go share with all your friends!

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open up the PSD file for the template.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Paper 3 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the entire canvas.

Add Table2.  Resize and position on the right lower portion of the canvas. Add DS.

Add your poser to the canvas on top of all your layers.  Resize her so she fits on the left side of the canvas. Add DS.  I purposely made her large in proportion to the table to indicate she is in a growth phase after the Drink Me bottle.

Add Bottle1 to the canvas next to Alice’s feet.  Resize to look small beside her and add DS.

Add White Rabbit.  Resize and position so that the rabbit is in front of the table on the right side.  Add DS.

Add Clock3 below the Table2 layer.    Resize so it takes up the center of the canvas.  Position so that the clock dips a bit behind the table.  Right click on the Clock3 layer and select Blending Options.  Change Blend Mode to Vivid Light.

Add Frame 2 and resize so it borders the entire canvas. Make sure the Frame 2 layer is below the Clock3 layer. This gives an appearance of the glittery dots being part of a background.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the beautiful elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used. 

Here are all the elements I used from the bottom layers up.

• Grass (x3)
• Bubbles2 (x2)
• Hearts (9) (x2)
• Trees (4)
• Trees (3)
• Trees (2)
• Books
• Books2
• Hat
• Clock2
• Butterfly

Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to select the entire canvas.  Add a new layer.  From the menu bar – Select > Modify > Border > Set the width to 10.  Make your foreground color white and use the paint bucket tool to fill in the border.

Add your license and copyright info to the tag.

Add name and any other text of choice.

Save as PNG and go share with all your friends!

CT Tutorial for Hoppy Easter by Michelle's Myths

Open up the PSD file for the template.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Element 46 to the canvas.  Resize to fit width of canvas.  Position at bottom of canvas and add DS.

Add your poser to the canvas.  Resize her so she fits on the left side of the canvas. Add DS. She should look like she is standing in front of the fence.

Open Paper 7 as a new canvas.  Double click the layer to unlock it (you will know it needs to be unlocked if a little padlock displays on the layer).

Add the Mask png file on top of the background layer.  Then drag the mask layer below the background. 

With the mask layer selected, select all (Ctrl + A) and copy the entire canvas (Ctrl + C).  You will see dashed lines surround the canvas. 

Click on the Background layer to activate it, then turn on quick mask (Press the Q key on your keyboard).  The dashed lines will disappear and that is ok.  Next Paste onto the background (Ctrl + V) and turn your Quick Mask off (Q again). 

You will now see a dotted outline of the mask on your background.  Press the button on the bottom of layers side bar that is a rectangle with a circle cut out of it.  The mask will now show. 

Right click on the background layer and select Convert to Smart Image.  This releases just the mask. 

Add the mask layer to your Working canvas.  Resize to fit your canvas.    Make it the bottom layer.

Add Frame 1 to the canvas in a layer above the mask layer.  Resize to fill the center of the canvas.  Position so it is slightly behind the fence.  Add DS.

Add Paper 6 in a layer below the frame.  Resize and position so the center of the frame has the paper behind it.  Right click on the paper layer and select Rasterize Layer.

Activate the Frame 1 layer. Use the magic wand tool and left click inside the empty part of the frame.  Use the menu commands to expand the size by 5 (Select > Modify > Expand >5).  Inverse your selection (Shfit + Ctrl + I). 

Activate the Paper 6 layer again.  Press the Delete key on your keyboard.  This deletes the paper outside of the frame.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the Easter elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

Kit- “Butterfly Garden” by Michelle’s Myths.  Available at Scrap Candy and PicsForDesign.com.

Tube - Adoria by Designs By Norella.  You can purchase the tube at PicsForDesign.com.

Abbreviations:

DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open up the PSD file for the template.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Frame 7 to the canvas.  Resize to fit in the lower left corner.  Add DS.

Add Frame 10 to the canvas.  Resize to fit in the upper right corner.  Add DS.  Drag Frame 10 layer below Frame 7 layer.  The corners of the two frame should overlap slightly.

Add Paper 9 in a new layer below Frame 10.  Resize so the paper covers the entire center of the frame.  Right click on the paper layer and select Rasterize Layer.  Use the eraser tool to get rid of any paper outside of the frame area.

Add Paper 1 in a layer below Frame 7. Resize so the paper covers the entire center of the frame.  Right click on the paper layer and select Rasterize Layer.  Use the eraser tool to get rid of any paper outside of the frame area.

Add your poser to the canvas on top of all your layers.  Resize her so she fits on the right corner of the canvas. Add DS.

Switch to the Poser psd canvas. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw a box around the head of the poser in the psd file.  Copy (Ctrl + C) the selection and return to your working canvas.

On your working canvas make sure Paper 1 layer is selected then paste (Ctrl + V) the copied selection.  Resize to fit the bottom left of the frame.  Right click on head layer and select “Create Clipping Mask” to get rid of any bits outside the paper.  Right click on the head layer and select Blending Options.  Change Blend mode to Color Dodge to get the ghost like effect shown in the tag.

Add Element 46 and resize to fit screen and position at the bottom of the canvas.  Drag this to be the bottom layer.  It should now look like the entire tag is resting on grass.

Add Element 98 behind your full size poser layer.  Resize to fit proportionally and add DS.

Add Element 62 above the Frame 10 layer.  Resize so that the signs are clearly visible above the bottom frame and the rest of the post is completely hidden behind the same frame.  Add DS.

Add a new layer at the bottom of the layers.  Use the Eyedropper tool to change your foreground color to a pink from the poser.  Use a flower paintbrush and dab pink flowers in the background.

Add another new layer below that layer.  Use the Eyedropper tool to change your foreground color to a blue from the poser.  Use a cloud paintbrush and dab clouds beneath the flowers to create a sky backdrop.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the beautiful elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

CT Tutorial - Sexy Vamp

**This tutorial was written using Photoshop CS5. I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.  This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).**

Supplies:

Kit- Sexy Vamp by Michelle’s Myths.  Available at Picsfordesign.com or Scrap Candy.

Tube- Becca by Designs by Norella.  You can purchase the tube exclusively at ScrapsFrom the Heart.

Abbreviations:

DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Helpful tips and tricks:

Resizing tubes and elements – To keep from distorting your images when you resize them use either option below:

1)      Hold down Alt + Shift on your keyboard and use your mouse to select one corner and drag

2)      Increase the scale size up in the action bar by the same percentage (100% is the beginning size).  After you have resized it, click the a on the action bar to commit the change to the image.

Rotating elements – Use “Free Transform” (Ctrl + T) and then use the mouse to select a corner of the image and rotate it in the direction you want.

Mirror images – Use “Flip Horizontal” or “Flip Vertical” to create a reverse of your image.  From the menu select Edit > Transform > and then whichever flip you want.

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open a new canvas (Ctrl +N) 700 x 700, transparent background.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Bats element and size to fit the canvas.  Add DS.

Add Sparkles1 on top of the Bats layer.  Resize it so that it fits the scene you are creating.  I used this sparkle element for the top half of the tag and then added Sparkles2 on top of this layer and resized it for the bottom of the tag.

Next add your tube to the bottom right of your canvas above the Sparkles layers. 

Add Heart3 next and resize to fit your tag.  Add DS.

Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw a box around the top part of the Becca poser in Layer 0 of the Becca psd file.  Copy (Ctrl + C) the selection and return to your working canvas.

On your working canvas make sure the Heart3 layer is selected then paste (Ctrl + V) the copied selection.  Resize the selection so that Becca’s head fits to your satisfaction in the upper left curve of the heart.  Once it is resized, right click on the layer and select “Create Clipping Mask”.  Reposition the head until you like how it appears.  To give it the outline look I used, right click on the layer again and select “Blending Options” and change the Blend Mode to “Multiply” and press Ok.

Now right click on the layer again and select Duplicate Layer.  Select the new layer and Flip the image horizontally to create a mirror image.  Reposition it in the upper right corner of the heart.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the lovely elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.

Between the Sparkles2 layer and the Heart3 layer from the bottom up I used:

Between the Copy layer of Becca’s head and the tube layer from the bottom up I used:

Skulls (I made a copy of the skulls and used them in two spots)

At this point I added the background a new layer at the bottom of the layers.  I used a watercolor brush and just dabbed around the canvas to add the shadowy looking background.  You could also use a mask for your background if you’d like instead.

Add your license and copyright info to the tag.

Add name and any other text of choice.

Save as PNG and go share with all your friends!

Add your tube to the bottom right side of your canvas.  Right click tube layer, select “Blending Options”, add DS.

Place MM-ML 66 (LOVE) on canvas below tube layer. Rotate it to about a negative 40 degree angle and resize it and apply DS.

Between the tube layer and the LOVE layer, add MM-ML 38 (Lamppost). Position the lamppost behind the rear end of the tube and resize until you like the proportion.

Now decorate your tag with any of the lovely elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  If you want to add depth to an element add DS to the layer.

From bottom to LOVE layer I used:

MM-ML 30 – Paint Drops

MM-ML 33 - Hearts

MM-ML 32 - Diamonds

MM-ML 60 - Ticket

MM-ML 56 – Black Rose

MM-ML 52 – Red Rose

MM-ML 51 – Music Heart

MM-ML 59 - Postcard

MM-ML 31 – Heart Scatter

MM-ML 3 – Marker Drawing a Heart

At this point I add the background.  If you know how to use masks and want to add one make it your bottom layer and re-size it and position it so you like the effect.  I’m notoriously horrible with masks, so instead for this tag I used a cloud brush set and just painted random patches on a new layer which I added to the bottom.  I alternated between two cloud brushes and red and black color until I liked the way it looked.

Add your license and copyright info to the tag.

Add name and any other text of choice.

Save as PNG and go share with all your friends!
