CT Tutorial for Miss Retro by Carolann Creations

**This tutorial was written using Photoshop CC. I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.  This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).  If you do not know how to do some of the things I mention here (like mirroring an image, adding a drop shadow, resizing elements, etc.), check out my “Tips and Tricks” tutorial. **

Supplies:

PTU Poser – “Miss Retro” by Carolann Creations.  You can purchase the tube at Berry Applicious.

PTU Kit- “Sunflower Smiles” by Designs by Stina.  Check out the designer’s blog to see a current list of stores where this kit is available.

FTU Mask - "Mask 05 - Dreamscape" by Aeval Amore.  Available for download on my blog, Aeval's Art.

Abbreviations:

DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open a new canvas (Ctrl +N) 700 x 700, transparent background.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add Paper 05 and resize to the fit the canvas. 

Add Paper 02 and resize it to fit the canvas as well.

Use the rectangular marquee tool to select the entire bottom quarter of the canvas.  Make sure you have the Paper 02 layer selected and right click on the layer.  Choose “Rasterize Layer”, then press your delete key.    This will erase the portion of the yellow paper in the area you have selected with your marquee tool.

Next inverse your selection (Shift + Ctrl + I) and select the Paper 02 layer.  Rasterize this layer and then press delete.  This will delete the green paper from the upper portion.

Select both paper layers (select one layer and then while holding down the Ctrl key select the other paper layer).  Right click on one of the layers and select “Merge Layers” this will make the two paper layers into one layer. 

Add the Mask to the canvas and resize if needed so it is the same size as the paper.  Then drag the mask layer below the paper layer.

With the mask layer selected, select all (Ctrl + A) and copy the entire canvas (Ctrl + C).  You will see dashed lines surround the canvas. 

Click on the paper layer to activate it, then turn on quick mask (Press the Q key on your keyboard).  The dashed lines will disappear and that is ok.  Next Paste onto the paper (Ctrl + V) and turn your Quick Mask off (Q again). 

You will now see a dotted outline of the mask on your paper.  Press the button on the bottom of layers side bar that is a rectangle with a circle cut out of it.  The mask will now show. 

Right click on the paper layer and select Convert to Smart Image.  This releases just the mask. 

Delete the original mask layer.

Add LogCabin to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the canvas and position in the middle of the canvas so it looks like the cabin is resting on the grass of the mask layer. Add DS.

Add Paper 28 to the canvas and resize to a width that covers both windows.  Mover the paper layer behind the cabin.  Use the eraser tool to erase the paper showing out the cabin area.

Add Fence01 to the canvas and resize the width of the mask.  Position in front of the cabin.  Add DS.

Add your poser to the canvas.  Resize her so she fits on the right side of the canvas.  Position her so it looks as though she is standing in front of the fence on the grass. 

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the beautiful elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

Add LEAFSCATTER to the canvas.  Resize to fit the canvas and position at the bottom of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add BRANCH2 to the canvas. Position it on the right side of the canvas on top of the leaves.  Add DS.

Add LEAF6 to the canvas.  Resize to fill in the space from the upper right corner to where the BRANCH2 element is on the right side.  Add DS.

Add FRAME2 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the entire canvas.  Add DS.

Add BANNER to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the canvas and position at the bottom of the canvas. 

Add your poser to the canvas and resize to fit the canvas.  Position her so she looks as though she is kneeling on top of the banner.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the fall inspired elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them to fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

Open the poser in another canvas.  Use the marquee tool and draw a rectangle around the face of the poser.  Copy the poser and switch back to the working canvas.  Paste the poser onto the canvas.  Resize to fit in the upper left corner.  Use the Eraser tool to erase around the edges of the face to give it a softer look.  Right click on the on the layer and select Blending Options, change the Blend Mode to “Hard Light” and click OK.

Open another pose of the poser in another canvas.  Use the marquee tool and draw a rectangle around the upper body of the poser.  Copy the poser and switch back to the working canvas.  Paste the poser onto the canvas.  Resize to fit in the upper right corner.  Change the Blend Mode on this one to “Pin Light”.

Add Element 42 to the canvas. Resize to fit the width of the canvas and position at the bottom in front of the mask.  Add DS.

Add Element 30 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the background and position toward the bottom on top of the grass. Add DS.

Add Element 64 to the canvas.  Resize to fit in front of the bridge so it slightly overlaps.  This makes it look like the bridge is between two fields of grass.  Add DS.

Add Element 34 to the canvas.  Resize to your liking and position on the grass in front of the bridge.  Add DS.

Ad your poser who is kneeling to the canvas.  Resize so she fits and look like her forearms are resting on the wheelbarrow.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the autumnal elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them to fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

Add FRAME3 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the canvas and position in the center of the mask.  Add DS.

Open the poser in another canvas.  Use the marquee tool and draw a rectangle around the upper body of the poser.  Copy the poser and switch back to the working canvas.  Paste the poser onto the canvas.  Select Edit>Transform>Flip Horizontal from the menu to flip her so she is facing in the opposite direction. Resize sot she extends slightly above the frame.  Add DS.

Add MATTING to the canvas and position below the frame layer.  Resize the element so the entire center of the frame has the matting behind it.  Switch to the frame layer.  Use the Magic Wand Tool to select the inside of the frame.  Inverse your selection (Shift + Ctrl + I).  Switch back to the Matting layer and right click on the layer.  Select “Rasterize Layer” and then press delete.  Now only the part of the element inside the frame remains. 

Add FLOWER12 to the canvas. Move the layer below the Matting layer. Position so it is slightly behind the top of the frame area and resize it to extend slightly beyond the Frame.  Add DS.

Add FLOWER10 to the canvas.  Move this to be the top layer. Resize to proportions that you like and position in the center at the bottom of the frame in the center.  If there is part of the tube overlapping the frame layer you can cover it up with this element.  Add DS.

Add PILLOW2 to the canvas.  Position it on the left side of the tag toward the bottom. Resize to your liking and add DS.

Add PILLOW to the canvas.  Resize to your liking and position in front of the other pillows, slightly overlapping.  Add DS.

Add BEAR2 to the canvas.  Resize to your liking and position slightly in front of the pink pillow and slightly overlapping.  Add DS.

Add CATS to the canvas.  Resize so the cats are roughly the same width of the pink pillow.  Position in front of the pillow and slightly overlapping the bear.  Add DS.

Add CAGE2 to the canvas.  Resize to fill the bottom right corner and add DS. 

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the girly elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them to fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

Add Element 44 to the canvas.  Resize to fit most of the canvas.  Add DS.  Position toward the left side of the canvas.

Add Element 57 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the base of the gazebo.  Position so it overlaps the bottom of the gazebo.  Add DS.

Add Element 45 to the canvas.  Position the grass in front of the gazebo so that the bottom portion is slightly below the grass.  Add DS.

Add Element 61 to the canvas.  Resize so it is big enough to hold the name you want to include on the tag and position in the middle of the canvas at the bottom. 

Add Element 26 to the canvas.  Resize so that it is the same height roughly as the board.  Position at the left end of the board slightly overlapping it.  Duplicate the element and move the duplicate to the right side of the board.

Add the full size poser to the canvas.  Resize her so she fits on the canvas.  Add DS.  Position her on the right side of the canvas so she looks as though she is flying above the grass.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the beautiful elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  Fill in any areas of the canvas that you don’t like the way the pieces go together. In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

CT Tutorial for PTU The Joker

Add Element Moon to the canvas.  Resize to about 250% and position in the upper left corner.  Add DS.

Add Element Castle to the canvas.  Resize to fit the height of the canvas and position on the left side.  Add DS.

Add Element Castle Tower 1 to the canvas.  Resize to fit proportionally with the Castle and position on the right side of the castle.

Add Element Stone Arch to the canvas and resize to fit the widths of the canvas.  Add DS.  Position at the bottom of the canvas.

Add Element Moss Steps 2 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the arch.  Position in the middle of the arch so the steps appear to be coming from the middle of the arch.  Add DS.

Add your poser to the canvas.  Resize her so she can fit comfortably on the steps.  Position so she appears to be perched on one of the upper steps.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the beautiful oriental elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used.

CT Tutorial for PTU The Joker is Pink

**This tutorial was written using Photoshop CC. I believe the instructions should work with various other versions, but they are not tested on any other version.  This tutorial is my own creation.  Any similarity to any other tutorial is not done purposely or knowingly (aside from the fact that the process is pretty similar in most tutorials).  If you do not know how to do some of the things I mention here (like mirroring an image, adding a drop shadow, resizing elements, etc.), check out my “Tips and Tricks” tutorial. **

Supplies:

PTU Poser – “The Joker is Pink” by Carolann Creations.  You can purchase the tube at Berry Applicious Store.

FTU Kit- “Faery Whispers” by Scraps by Randy's Sin.  You can download this whimsical kit here.

FTU Mask - “Mask 10 - Flames” available for download from my blog.

Abbreviations:

DS – Drop Shadow

Settings I use:

DS Settings - Blend Mode set to Multiply, Opacity set to 75%, Angle set to 120 degrees, Distance 5, Spread 0, Size 5

Ready…..Set….Tag!

Open Paper 11 in a new canvas.  Double click on the layer to unlock it.

Add the Mask to the canvas and resize if needed so it is the same size as the paper.  Then drag the mask layer below the paper layer.

With the mask layer selected, select all (Ctrl + A) and copy the entire canvas (Ctrl + C).  You will see dashed lines surround the canvas. 

Click on the paper layer to activate it, then turn on quick mask (Press the Q key on your keyboard).  The dashed lines will disappear and that is ok.  Next Paste onto the paper (Ctrl + V) and turn your Quick Mask off (Q again). 

You will now see a dotted outline of the mask on your paper.  Press the button on the bottom of layers side bar that is a rectangle with a circle cut out of it.  The mask will now show. 

Right click on the paper layer and select Convert to Smart Image.  This releases just the mask.  The background layer of the mask will become invisible on its own. 

Open a new canvas (Ctrl +N) 700 x 700, transparent background.  This will be referred to as the working canvas in my directions when switching between canvases.

Add the combined mask from above and resize to the fit the canvas.  Make sure this becomes your bottom layer.  It will stay the bottom layer of the tag.

Add Element Grass5 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the mask area and position toward the bottom of the mask area.  Add DS.

Add Element Arch to the canvas.  Resize to fit on the canvas with the bottom of the arch resting on the grass.  Position in center and Add DS.

Add Element Grass6 to the canvas.  Resize to fit the width of the other grass patch.  Position at the bottom in front of the base of the arch.  The arch should now be sandwiched between the two grass elements.  Add DS.

Add your poser to the left of the arch and resize her to fit on the canvas.  Position her so it looks as though she is leaning against the arch.

Switch to the Poser psd canvas. Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to draw a box around the top half of the poser in the psd file.  Copy (Ctrl + C) the selection and return to your working canvas.

On your working canvas, make sure you have the mask layer selected and paste (Ctrl + V) the copied selection.  Flip the pasted layer horizontally (from the menu bar: Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal).  Resize to fit inside the arch opening and position in center.  Right click on the layer and select Blending Options.  Change the Blend Mode to “Hard Light”.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.

Now decorate your tag with any of the beautiful oriental elements from the kit.  Resize the elements as you add them so fit the proportions of your tag.  Experiment with rotating them and mirroring them for more variety.  In addition duplicate elements and use multiple times to fill in holes and add more pizzazz.  In this tutorial to indicate when I used more than one of the same element I will add (X#) by the name to indicate how many versions of the element I used. 

Here are all the elements I used from the bottom layers up.

Add your license and copyright info to the tag.

Add name and any other text of choice.

Save as PNG and go share with all your friends!

CT Tutorial for Dragon Tamer and Oriental Discovery

Supplies:

PTU Poser – “Dragon Tamer” by Carolann Creations.  You can purchase the tube at Mischief Designz.

PTU Kit- “Oriental Discovery” by FwTags Creations.  Available at Berry Applicious Store, Scraps n Company,  Mischief Designz, DigiFox’s Studio,  and SensibilityScrapping.

Add Element 7 to the canvas and resize to fit canvas.  Position at the bottom of the mask area.

Add Element 45 to the canvas and resize to fit canvas.  Add DS.

Add Element 6 to the canvas and resize to fit the height of the canvas.  Add DS.

Add Element 35 to the canvas. Resize and position on top of the brick in front of the archway.

Duplicate the layer with Element 45 and drag up to the top.  Use the eraser tool to erase a portion of the element to form a soft edge between the grass and the bricks.

Add your poser to the canvas.  Resize her so she fits on the left side of the canvas.  Position her so it looks as though she is kneeling in front of the arch on the bricks.  Add DS.

Voila!  The focal point of your tag is now created.
